Good things come in (Generation) 3s

How do you improve on a classic? We’re glad you asked.

The Polaroid Now and Now+ Generation 3 Instant Cameras take better, brighter pictures in a wider variety of lighting conditions. All thanks to a few breakthroughs from the brainiacs in our product team. Let’s break down what those smarty-pantses have been up to – and how it makes your photos even better.

Upgraded ranging sensors.

To take a focused photo, your camera needs to know how far away your subject is. To do this, it fires out infrared lights and reads how long they take to come back. By upgrading this piece of tech, it can now more accurately inform the camera’s two-lens autofocus which lens to use. Giving you a sharper photo more often than not. Pretty smart, right?

Improved light meter position.

Okay, now we’re warmed up with the tech-speak, let’s chat light meters. Once your camera knows how far away your subject is, it needs to know how bright the scene is. See that little bumpy thing on the very bottom of the lens? That little guy reads how much light is coming in and tells the camera how fast the shutter should be to properly expose your shot.

In previous generations, the light meter was under the viewfinder. By moving it under the lens, it now does two things:

a) Gives more accurate readings on how much light is entering the camera right at the point the light actually enters the camera, giving you more accurate exposures.

b) Sits behind any glass placed over the lens, making your camera filter compatible!

New colorways.

Okay, sure. Maybe new colors don’t help you get better photos. But they do help you look damn fine taking them.

Now or Now+, that is the question.

While they look similar, it’s what’s inside that counts. The Now+ connects to the Polaroid App and allows you to access modes like aperture priority, remote controls, double-exposure, self-timer, manual mode and more. (That’s why there’s a plus in the name. Because it “adds” to the experience.)

If you’re looking for the analog simplicity of a pick-up-and-play point-and-shoot instant camera, you might want the Now. If you want extra creative firepower to impress and inspire envy in your less creative friends, opt for the Now+. Either way, you can scan and share your photos in the Polaroid App.
